Go Direct

Go Direct is a national campaign designed to encourage consumers to select direct deposit for their federal benefit payments, such as Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI.)  If all beneficiaries of these programs switched from checks to direct deposit, taxpayers would save about $120 million annually.  In addition, direct deposit protects people from fraud and identity theft. In fact, individuals are 30 times more likely to have a problem with
federal benefit checks than with direct deposit payments.

In addition to the benefits stated above, direct deposit gives you more control over your money and your time because it is predictable and dependable.  There’s no worrying or waiting for a check to arrive – you know your money will be in your account on payment day.  Direct deposit also provides you with immediate access to your money from virtually anywhere.

It is easy to sign up for direct deposit – and it only takes a few minutes.  Simply call the toll-free Go Direct helpline at (800) 333-1795, visit fiscal.treasury.gov/GoDirect/ to sign up online, or visit your local bank or credit union or Social Security Administration office.
